Since We're Friends

The second book that I really enjoyed reading is actually the one that I did for my book talk. Since We're Friends by Celeste Shally is a touching book about friendship. Last year I observed in a school for Autistic children and ever since then I have wanted to learn more about it and pursue it as a career. This book really shows how everyone needs a friend no matter what. If you have someone there for you to confide in laugh with and talk with your life is that much better. This book is about two different boys one autistic one not and the bond that they share. It also lets people know why autistic children act the way they do, how they struggle in different social situations, and how it is sometimes hard for them to make friends. This book teaches alot and is a very good read.

I work in a children's center and we have a few children with autism. It is definitely true that everyone needs a friend and it makes me happy to say the children at the center are able to communicate with some help and have friends. It is touching to see that the children around them accept them for who they are.

Helpful hint ;): it is not politically correct to say autistic children. The correct term is children with autism. I learned this at work, so that's why I'm trying to help. I found this out about a month or two ago. This is because the children actually can tell when you say it the other way it is in a negative way and if you say it the correct way they don't feel like they are a burden or are completely different from the rest of their friends.

working with children with autism is not an easy task, it takes a lot of dedication and I applaud you for wanting to do it! good luck with all of that. and that sounds like a really good book for children to learn about friendship with!
