Colorful World

Colorful World by CeCe Winans, Keith Thomas, and Alvin Love III is a beautiful story about being different. This book talks about and shows pictures of children all around the world and how not one of us is exactly the same. No matter what the color of your skin or what you might experience becasue of that we are all special in our own way and that is important. This book can teach you alot about different ethnicities, excepting others and much more. I really enjoyed this book becasue it shows how beautiful it is to be different, and how if you open your mind to different things the possibilites of who you could meet or what you could do are endless.

One Candle

One Candle by Eve Bunting is the story of a family who all gather together to celebrate the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. The grandma recounts stories of the Holocaust and how she marked each day of Hanukkah while inside the camps. The whole family is all so appreciative of what they have now and realize retelling these stories keep them strong as a family. I really enjoyed this book and think that there is so much in it to learn from. It teaches so much history, about different holidays, but most of all how important family is in both the good and bad times. This inspirational story would definitely be a good addition for the children to read because it will teach them to appreciate what they have and how important good friends and family are to have.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman is about an adventerous girl who loves acting out stories, plays, whatever you name it she likes preforming it. However when her class is doing an interpretation of Peter Pan she faces alot of critisism from classmates who say she can't play him because she is a girl and African American. This book is good for children it shows them you should never listen to others and you could be whatever you want to be. I think this book is a great read and would be a great addition to your school library.

Since We're Friends

The second book that I really enjoyed reading is actually the one that I did for my book talk. Since We're Friends by Celeste Shally is a touching book about friendship. Last year I observed in a school for Autistic children and ever since then I have wanted to learn more about it and pursue it as a career. This book really shows how everyone needs a friend no matter what. If you have someone there for you to confide in laugh with and talk with your life is that much better. This book is about two different boys one autistic one not and the bond that they share. It also lets people know why autistic children act the way they do, how they struggle in different social situations, and how it is sometimes hard for them to make friends. This book teaches alot and is a very good read.

Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom

One book that I thought what was really interesting and educational was this book about Harriet Tubman. This is the story of a corageous strong women who beat many odds and escaped from slavery. Although she had a lot of tough times ahead of her she did all she could to help her self and eveyone else she knew who was affected by the harsh times of slavery. She walked for months, hid in holes, and ate very little but she knew that the end result would be well worth it. I really liked this book because for children it will introduce them to a time in history that wasn't so fair. I had always heard the story of Harriet Tubman and the underground rail road but this book re introduced the subject matter to me and Ilearned so much more. I love history and for other children who love learning about things in the past also this book is perfect!
